When we initially charge the card we are using the Estimated fare which varies between fleets
Once you have entered your details and the amount has been Pre Authorised we hold the Estimated amount in this case £8.10 (This Amount you may see in your pending statement)
When the final fare comes through we fully Authorise the card
When the amount is authorised and is less than estimated amount AirPay asks the bank for partial amount and releases the rest of the funds to the customer. In some cases you may see separate pending transactions of the estimated fare £8.10 and final fare £5.85 which after a day or so these will consolidate into one transaction on your statement.
When the amount is authorised and is more than estimated amount you may see separate pending transactions of the estimated fare £8.10 & an additional charge of £5.35 to make the amount up to the final fare, you may also see the final fare £13.45 which after a day or so these will consolidate into one transaction on your statement. Different banks will show this in different ways on their statements, some banks show the workings out £8.10 & £5.35 and some banks show the final amounts. If you have any queries on what is showing on your statement please refer to your bank.
This is happening because when AirPay Adjust the fare funds have to be requested from the bank. The banks are supposed to link these transactions together so that they appear as one item to the passenger. However we have found that in some cases this is not happening. The end result is that the shopper appears to be charge twice, you have not been charged twice.
