The base rate for Airpay card fees is 0.95% + 12p, but the additional fees are as follows:
- To combat fraud and chargebacks Airpay payments are processed through 3D Secure 2 (also sometimes called Strong Customer Authentication), which uses extra security checks. The additional fee for 3D Secure 2 is around 3p per transaction.
- Some cards have higher interchange fees than a standard card, for example some business banking cards and European cards.
If the final card fee from our onward payment processor is higher than the base Airpay fee, we charge the higher rate. This is why your fleet payout may be lower than you are expecting by an average of 3p per transaction.
